Top AEW Star Admits Title Reign ‘Wasn’t Too Memorable’ AEW

Following many months of speculation regarding their future, FTR’s AEW Tag Title win over The Gunn’s in their career vs title match on last week’s AEW Dynamite confirmed that the team would be staying put in Tony Khan’s company.

Despite speculation (much of which fuelled via Dax’s FTR Podcast) linking the team with a WWE return, both Dax and Cash would decide against a move back to Stanford.

A factor in their decision was the freedom to compete in other promotions around the world, something they have done to great success, particularly in 2022 where they became the AAA, ROH and IWGP Tag Team Champions all at once.

In a recent interview with Uproxx’s Raj Prashad, Cash Wheeler would speak further on their international exploits hailing the freedom in which AEW offers:

“To be able to go to Japan and do what we’ve done, to go to Mexico and do what we’ve done, to go work for these independents and do stuff with Bret (Hart), to do stuff that we’ve had on our bucket list, that from 2014 to 2020 was not even possible. There’s so much more we can do and we wanted to do.

“There’s more to wrestling than one company. I love getting to go in front of 2,000 people, 20,000 people, whatever it is, as long as they care and they love what we do.

“It’s the passion that these fans bring to us that really helped elevate us to where we are now. So it’s hard to say bye.”

Despite the success they had in companies outside of AEW, Dax would reveal disappointment regarding the team’s previous run with the AEW tag titles, saying the 63-day run “wasn’t too memorable”.

FTR notably won the gold at All Out 2020 from Kenny Omega & Hangman Page, before dropping the gold to the Young Bucks at that year’s Full Gear show.

While many would assume that the double-header of Vince McMahon’s recent return and the WWE sale to Endeavor potentially impacting FTR’s decision, they would reveal that their decision wasn’t actually due to that in the end.
