Tony Khan has confirmed that former NJPW Openweight Champion Tomohiro Ishii has an extended run in AEW planned.
Ishii most recently featured in the AEW International Championship Number 1 Contendership Global Glory Four-Way match on the July 10 episode of Dynamite.
Highlights from the match can be seen below this news story, with PAC being victorious over Ishii, Claudio Castagnoli and Kyle Fletcher.
After last night’s AEW Dynamite, Tony Khan confirmed future plans for Ishii, revealing:
“It’s so great having @njpwglobal all-time legend Tomohiro Ishii here in AEW on Wednesday Night #AEWDynamite TONIGHT!
“We love having Ishii here + now he’s going to stay here in @AEW with us for the rest of summer 2024!
“AEW is on fire right now!
“Thank you all + God bless you all!”
Ishii competed in the 2022 Owen Hart Foundation Tournament but would lose to Adam Cole on AEW Rampage.
He was also in the All-Atlantic Championship qualifiers defeating Clark Conners at NJPW New Japan Road in June 2022.
In February 2024, Orange Cassidy defeated Ishii to retain the Intercontinental Championship.
