UPDATE: Somewhat of a rumor killer has emerged on this story, which you can read at this link.
AEW Dynamite has been a TV-14 rated show since it’s debut back in October 2019, which has led to it becoming ‘grittier’ and ‘edgier’ than WWE Raw and SmackDown, which have been TV-PG since 2008.
The main difference between Dynamite and WWE’s shows is that the wrestlers on AEW are allowed to use more colorful language more frequently, as well as the obvious large amounts of blood during matches.
In an update from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, if you have noticed a toned down amount of language on AEW programming recently, that’s by design.
Meltzer notes that WBD had told AEW to tone down the language, but noted that, as he can tell, they have not said anything about blood.
He wrote:
Word has gotten to the promotion from WBD that they’d like the language toned down. As best we can tell, they have said nothing about the blood
An update emerged on the reports that WWE were planning on changing Raw back to TV-14 last night, noting that the change is reportedly no longer in the company’s plans.
