Tony Khan Wanted Different Debut In ‘Face Of The Revolution’ Ladder Match AEW

The March 1 episode of AEW Dynamite saw the debut of Koamnder in Face of the Revolution Ladder Match, but he wasn’t the top choice!

The match saw Eddie Kingston, AR Fox, Powerhouse Hobbs, Action Andretti, Sammy Guevara, Komander, Ortiz and Konosuke Takeshita face off for shot at the TNT Championship at a later date.

Dave Meltzer, writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), has revealed that Tony Khan wanted someone else to debut in the match, writing:

“Tony Khan wanted El Hijo de Vikingo to debut in the ladder match but he wasn’t available so the office asked for Komander.”

Meltzer would also reveal that:

“Komander, who debuted on Dynamite in the ladder match with no buildup at all, was not under contract when put on the show and is very much on the WWE radar.

“Komander actually is under contract with the KAOZ promotion in Mexico and not sure how that would impact his ability to actually sign with WWE or AEW.

“But he couldn’t sign with either right now without the approval of KAOZ.”

The match was eventually won by Powerhouse Hobbs, who was able to scale the ladder and capture the giant gold ring for his championship opportunity.

There was an insane ladder moment during the match that you can read about and watch here.

Arn Anderson recently spoke about the potential of Powerhouse Hobbs, describing him as a “future champion”.
