AEW Files Trademark For Former WWE Star’s Old Gimmick Name AEW

AEW have filed the trademark on a former WWE star’s old gimmick that has made multiple cameos on AEW television.

When Paul Wight joined AEW back in 2021, he spoke about his desire to bring back his popular ‘Captain Insano’ character, which he portrayed in the movie the Waterboy.

Since then, Captain Insano has made multiple cameos on AEW television, including in skits with the Acclaimed and Better Than You Bay Bay.

On January 24, AEW filed to trademark the term Captain Insano with the following description:

“G & S: Bandanas; Hats; Headwear; Pants; Shirts; Shorts; Socks; Sweatshirts; T-shirts; Undergarments; Clothing jackets; Tank tops; Clothing for wear in wrestling games”, “G & S: Action figures; Toy action figures; Cases for action figures; Play sets for action figures; Toy action figures and accessories therefor; Toy wrestling rings”, as well as “G & S: Entertainment in the nature of wrestling contests; Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, live appearances by a professional wrestler; Entertainment services, namely, televised appearances by a professional wrestler.”

It is not known when Paul Wight may return to AEW television.

He last competed in the Yakuza Like A Dragon Gaiden Street Fight on the November 15, 2023 episode of Dynamite, where he, Kenny Omega, Chris Jericho and Kota Ibushi defeated Brian Cage and the Don Callis Family.
