AEW Trademark Suspended Due To WWE Confusion

It has emerged that All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has a had a trademark filing suspended, due in part to confusion with a pending WWE trademark.

As reported by Heel By Nature, the United States Patent & Trademark Office has suspended AEW’s filing for ‘Stadium Stampede’ – which was made on August 6 – for two reasons.

The first reason is because of the use of the word ‘Stadium’. The Office advised that the promotion should submit a new filing, with the disclaimer: “No claim is made to the exclusive right to use ‘STADIUM’ apart from the mark as shown”.

The second reason, which is the WWE confusion part, is that WWE currently has a pending trademark filing for ‘Spring Stampede’, which was filed on January 6, 2019. WWE has an “identification of services” issue with that trademark which is preventing it from being accepted.

On December 3, AEW submitted a new application for Stadium Stampede with the suggested disclaiminer, but didn’t argue why the promotion should be granted rights to use “Stampede” relating to wrestling. The filing was suspended on December 7.

With the WWE ‘Spring Stampede’ trademark, the company has until March 2021 to make the required updates to that, or it’ll be abandoned.
