Following his Parking Lot Fight, a new report has revealed a backstage update on a legitimate AEW career-ending injury.
On the April 27 edition of AEW Rampage, Trent Beretta defeated Chuck Taylor in a Parking Lot Fight. After the bout, Beretta smashed Taylor’s ankle with a pipe in front of Orange Cassidy and Kris Statlander.
On the May 1 episode of AEW Dynamite, Orange announced that Chuckie T will not be able to wrestle again following Trent’s attack.
As previously reported, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that the belief right now is that Taylor will not be able to wrestle anytime soon.
Fightful Select (subscription required) provided an update, noting that Chuck Taylor was well aware of the extent of his injuries heading into his Parking Lot Fight with Trent Beretta.
Sources on the roster said that Taylor wanted to have the Parking Lot Fight, as it could have been the last match of his career.
The report notes that Taylor has also been training as coach and producer backstage for months in All Elite Wrestling.
During a recent interview with Sean Ross Sapp, AEW and NJPW executive Rocky Romero also touched on the domino effect of Chuck Taylor’s current health. He said:
“He’s been good for so long. Some of my favorite work that he’s done was when he was in PWG.”
“The Parking Lot Brawls the Best Friends have done have been iconic in AEW, but it’s unfortunate to not see Chuck be able to do even more, and I don’t know if we ever will. I really don’t know.”
“It’s a pretty crappy situation overall. I am happy for Trent that he’s getting his opportunity to show out.”
“He’s better as a heel and more comfortable. So far, it’s been great. The reaction he got in Winnipeg was amazing.”
“Trent is such a good wrestler so it’s going to be cool to see where he can go with this and how far he can go. I don’t think I’ll be involved.”
WrestleTalk will provide any further updates on Chuck Taylor’s status with AEW when they become available.
