Further details of AEW’s plans to push one of their roster as a ‘top tier guy’ have been revealed in a recent update.
Dave Meltzer had previously reported the news that there were plans to push Konosuke Takeshita, saying that there was a “big push on the horizon some day soon.”
He has now followed up the claim in the current Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required).
Going into further detail on the planned push, Meltzer stated:
“Although he’s not being featured on television right now, and when he is, he’s there to lose to the top stars in great matches, there are significant plans for Takeshita to be pushed as a top tier guy.
“Obviously, the Don Callis scouting storyline looks to be a catalyst in some form.”
Takeshita has made appearances on AEW Dark, AEW Dark: Elevation and AEW Rampage and has faced top-tier competitors in AEW.
In December 2022, he faced Jon Moxley on AEW Rampage.
Moxley would defeat Takeshita by the referee’s decision.
Takeshita continues to perform on the independent circuit, having recently appeared at DDT All Seats 3000 Yen! DDT New Year Pro Wrestling Festival facing Yuki Ueno.
