Some AEW talents have reportedly been upset by homophobic lines that have featured in promos on AEW TV.
Following the September 15 edition of Dynamite, Jericho received backlash from fans after asking American Top Team which of them is ‘on top’. Both Jericho and Lambert have since been called out by fans for certain lines in promos for being homophobic.
During a Fightful Q&A show, Sean Ross Sapp noted that he has had been told that some backstage were unhappy with these lines. Unsure whether or not these concerns have been passed along to management, Sapp stated:
“They say it to me. I don’t know if they say it to Jericho, Lambert or Tony Khan. But they say it to me. Like if I mention, ‘Hey have you said anything to this person?’, they don’t say anything back, so, it’s said to me, but I don’t know if it’s said out loud.”

AEW notably has a diverse roster with numerous LGBTQ+ stars, including Anthony Bowens and Nyla Rose, who have both recently commented on hate they’ve received from fans in attendance at shows.
