AEW star Wardlow has reportedly suffered an injury after only recently returning to television for the first time in well over a year.

After an absence of 17 months, Wardlow made his return at AEW Forbidden Door on August 24, attacking Prince Nana after Swerve Strickland’s AEW Unified Title match with Kazuchika Okada and joining the Don Callis Family.

Since the angle however, Wardlow hasn’t had a match and hasn’t appeared again since the post-Forbidden Door episode of Dynamite, and Fightful Select has revealed the potential reason why.

Wardlow has reportedly suffered an injury, which is feared to be a torn pectoral muscle according to Fightful’s sources in AEW, and if that is the case then the three-time TNT Champion would likely be facing a lengthy stint on the sidelines.

It was reportedly suggested that the injury may have occurred during Wardlow’s return angle itself, but that is not yet confirmed.

It was noted that Wardlow could remain on TV despite the injury – just not having any matches or getting physical – but it’s not clear yet whether this is in AEW’s plans.

Wardlow last wrestled for AEW on the March 13, 2024 episode of Dynamite, challenging Samoa Joe for the AEW World Championship.

His lengthy absence from then until Forbidden Door was largely due to injury, although the 37-year-old also took part in the reboot of American Gladiators after being cleared, which further delayed his return to TV as Tony Khan didn’t want to bring him back before the filming just for him to be gone again.

We wish Wardlow all the best in his recovery and will provide updates on his injury status as more information becomes available.
