AEW WBD TV Deal ‘Done’, Big Change Revealed

With Tony Khan recently saying “AEW on TBS and TNT” is “here to stay” an update has emerged on the WBD deal.

Khan made the statement at the AEW Collision & Rampage tapings at the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, IL on September 6, 2024.

Dave Meltzer has now provided further details on the status of the deal on Wrestling Observer Radio, saying:

“The WBD deal is a done deal.

“There are going to be changes, there is going to be a pay-per-view component in this deal. What that is? I don’t know. But if they’re doubling the number and WBD is getting the rights to the pay-per-view I could see that makes doubling the number more sense in a lot of ways.

“I don’t know exactly if it’s going to be how UFC does it, if it’s going to be how WWE does it, but there is going to be a deal with (HBO) MAX with the pay-per-views in some form.”

On September 6, the term “AEW: Shockwave” was filed with the United States Patent & Trademark Office suggesting a new show could be coming.

In 2023, AEW held eight pay-per-view events, adding All In, WrestleDream and Worlds End to its calendar.

The All In name had previously been used in September 2018 before AEW debuted with Double or Nothing in May 2019.
