As AEW Dynamite kicked off tonight, fans were awaiting to see how AEW and Tony Khan would address the fallout from the backstage fight following the AEW All Out media scrum.
Tony Khan kicked off the show, announcing that following All Out, he has been forced to vacate both the AEW World Championship and the AEW Trios Championship.
Khan then revealed that tonight’s Trios match between Death Triangle and the Best Friends will now be a match to crown the new Trios Champions.
UPDATE – That match was won by Death Triangle so Pac, Penta and Fenix are the new Trios Champions.
As for the AEW World Championship, the new champion will be crowned at Arthur Ashe Stadium at AEW Grand Slam, with AEW hosting a ‘tournament of champions’ to determine the participants.
Tonight’s match will pit Bryan Danielson against Hangman Adam Page, with the winner of that match facing Chris Jericho in the semi-finals. The next match of the first round will take place on Rampage, pitting Sammy Guevara against Darby Allin, with the winner of that match facing Jon Moxley in the other semi-final.
UPDATE – Danielson won the match against Page tonight, so will be facing Jericho in the semi-final next week.
The winners of the two semi-finals will face off in the final at AEW Grand Slam.
