WWE/AEW
Anthony Henry has revealed that JD Drake was also initially set to sign with WWE, ahead of them eventually joining AEW.
Henry notably wrestled for WWE as “Asher Hale” from May to July 2021, mostly competing on NXT TV and 205 Live ahead of being let go from his contract that August.
The WorkHorseman has now taken to Twitter to reveal that his tag-team partner JD Drake was also supposed to be signed by WWE when he joined the company in January 2021.
Henry wrote:
Something not many know: @RealJDDrake was supposed to be signed, alongside myself, for WWE. Obviously, that didn’t happen.
I often wonder what would have happened had that happened. I think we still would have ended up where we are, but the journey would have been different.
Replying to a Twitter user who stated that Drake should’ve gotten into shape, Henry stated that Drake’s physique wasn’t a factor in them ultimately not joining WWE:
I don’t understand the need for people to talk so poorly about others. You went out of your way to make a comment that didn’t need to be made, just to try and hurt someone.
For the record, WWE indeed wanted him. His body was not a factor in him not signing. It was an injury.
Anthony Henry made his AEW debut on an episode of Dark in September 2021. He was reunited with Drake in AEW in March 2022.
Henry, who’s currently out of action with a jaw injury, was let go from his AEW contract in April.
Shortly after this was reported, Khan announced that he and Henry had came to terms on an agreement for him to return to AEW after he’s cleared to compete.
Henry recently teased his in-ring return, which you can read more about right here.
