AEW star Jeff Jarrett has opened up about his departure from WWE in 2022, noting that he’s less of a Triple H guy than his replacement.
Jarrett signed with AEW in November 2022 having left his role as WWE Senior Vice President of Live Events in August of that year.
Stepping into the executive role in WWE was Brian James, better known as Road Dogg, the man who would induct Jarrett into the WWE Hall of Fame back in 2018.
With Jarrett currently an active wrestler in AEW and the Director of Business Development, the Hall of Famer has addressed his departure from WWE.
During a recent episode of his My World podcast, Jarrett responded to a question about his exit, asking if was related to Triple H taking over following Vince McMahon’s departure.
Jarrett would confirm that he wasn’t necessarily a “Triple H guy”, going on to explain that he has always had a cordial relationship with the current CCO.
Jarrett explained:
“To be clear here, there is a funny story about this in that Brian, I can’t say, took my position, but Brian was put in the exact same job I had. Best buds, him replacing me.
“I always kind of thought that was fascinating, but the optics obviously appear and more to be unfolded that I’m not aware of, I think, in the months and years to come.
“But it’s pretty obvious that Vince brought me back not once but twice, three times, four times, or three times over that time frame. So I think the most simplistic bill of answer would be, ‘Brian was more of a Triple H guy,’ but I’ve never had a cross word with Hunter in my life. Always business, always cordial.
“As a matter of fact, when I came back the first time, as far as the Royal Rumble, he was the one who gave me the call. So, to be in the Royal Rumble, because the Hall of Fame was 2018, 2019, the Rumble. Hunter’s the one who called me there.
“So I can’t say I’m not a Triple H guy, but I think Brian is more of a Triple H guy.”
James still oversees creative of WWE live events, despite the company scaling back the number of house shows, which he recently commented on.
Jarrett was an entrant in the January 27, 2019 Royal Rumble and had his WWE last match against Elias on the February 2 episode of Raw.
He is a former six-time WWF Intercontinental Champion, WWF Tag Team Champion and WWF European Champion.
