AEW Star Wants Match Against Released WWE Name

AEW Star Wants Match Against Released WWE Name WWE/AEW

A current AEW star is interested in a match with a former WWE star who was released by the company on May 2.

Dakota Kai was among a number of WWE stars who were released that day, with the other main roster names being Braun Strowman, Shayna Baszler, Kayden Carter and Katana Chance.

AEW’s Willow Nightingale has now expressed interest in facing Kai, naming her as the free agent she’d loce to step into the ring with.

Speaking on the Gabby AF podcast, the former AEW TBS Champion revealed herself as a longstanding fan of Kai, saying:

“I was a big fan of a wrestler who went by the name of Evie for years and years and years. I believe some people might know her now by the name of King Kota, but I know Team Kick with Evie.

“I never had the opportunity to wrestle her because she was off somewhere else before I had the opportunity to get to SHIMMER. I’m rooting for her to land on her feet wherever she goes.

“Everybody else, I’m rooting for them to land on their feet too, because I know how this business is, but that is what makes the fangirl inside of me like, ‘Ooh, that would be fun.'”

In SHIMMER, Kai (as Evie) held the tag team championship with Heidi Lovelace, who would go on to be known as Ruby Riott in WWE and Ruby Soho in AEW.

Kai signed with WWE in December 2016 and would remain with the company until April 2022 whereupon she was released for the first time.

She would be re-hired by WWE in July 2022, appearing at SummerSlam with Bayley and IYO SKY and forming Damage CTRL.

Dakota Kai’s time in WWE saw her become the inaugural (and two-time) NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion (with Raquel Gonzalez) and a two-time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion with IYO SKY.

Following her release, a TNA Wrestling star issued Kai and two other former stars with an offer to join him.
