AJ Lee has made her return to WWE during tonight’s September 5 episode of SmackDown at Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois.
At WWE Clash In Paris last weekend, Seth Rollins retained the World Heavyweight Championship in the four-way main event against CM Punk, LA Knight and Jey Uso.
The end of the match saw Rollins’ wife Becky Lynch interfere with a low blow to Punk.
The following night on Raw, Lynch and Punk had a verbal altercation that turned physical when Lynch started slapping and shoving Punk around, mocking the fact that he couldn’t do anything back.
Punk later found out that SmackDown was in Chicago this week, which led to him saying that Lynch would pay for what she did.
The last segment on tonight’s show saw Seth Rollins make his way into the crowd to watch on as Becky Lynch entered the ring, with Rollins notably introducing her as “the greatest female wrestler in the history of planet earth.”
Lynch proceeded to run down Punk’s hometown of Chicago before he came out to the ring himself.
The crowd started chanting AJ Lee, which Punk outright acknowledged and said “you will listen to them chant AJ Lee.”
Punk then listed other women he could call upon to do something about Lynch, including Bayley and Rhea Ripley.
When Lynch started slapping him around again like she did on Raw, Punk exited the ring and said he’d never hit a lady, but he knows someone who will – and that’s when AJ Lee’s theme music hit and she made her way onto the stage.
After skipping around the ring, Lee then attacked Lynch and laid her out.
Lee had been absent from WWE and in-ring action entirely since March 2015.
She did have a role at WOW from 2021 to 2023 in an out-of-the-ring capacity.
A husband and wife mixed tag team match is expected to be made for Wrestlepalooza on September 20 with Punk and Lee facing Rollins and Lynch.
