Potential alternative plans for AJ Lee upon her return to WWE have been revealed by CM Punk ahead of Wrestlepalooza.
AJ and Punk team up on September 20 to face Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins at the ESPN debut PLE.
Appearing on ESPN to promote the show, Punk discussed AJ’s WWE return and the question marks about whether it would happen – not just due to her past issues with management, but in terms of physicality, her previous injury issues.
Punk noted that even if Lee hadn’t have been able to return to the ring, the door was still open for her to return in a different capacity.
He said:
“Even if the door was closed for her to come back and be a competitor or be an on-screen talent, I think the idea was, ‘Hey, if you wanna do anything here. If there’s anything you wanna promote, if you wanna come back and be an ambassador’ – you (Big E) do amazing work.
“I think the genesis of everything was just a conversation.”
