AJ Styles Reveals Rejected Pitches For Shawn Michaels & Triple H WrestleMania Matches

AJ Styles has recalled his pitches for WrestleMania matches against Shawn Michaels and Triple H.

The Phenomenal One has faced a number of notable names on the Grandest Stage of Them All in recent years, battling Edge at WrestleMania 38 and facing Undertaker in the Deadman’s final match at WrestleMania 36.

Speaking with Fightful Select (subscription required), AJ Styles confirmed that he pushed for WWE to make Shawn Michaels an offer for one last WrestleMania bout.

Noting that he also pitched a match with Triple H, Styles said:

“Well, the last person I tried was Triple H. I didn’t get him. I don’t know who the next guy is or if there will be another one. Now we’ve got the younger talent coming up. Maybe I’m the match that they would like to have. I would like to have some good ones before I retire. Who knows? I don’t know who’s going to be next. None of us do. We’ll just have to see what happens.”

Shawn Michaels last wrestled at Crown Jewel 2018, teaming with Triple H to face off against Undertaker & Kane. Triple H most recently stepped into the ring for a short street fight against Randy Orton in January 2021, but wrestled his last full match during a 2019 live event in Tokyo.

The Game officially announced his retirement ahead of WrestleMania 38, confirming that he’ll never have another match, following his serious cardiac event.

Triple H now runs WWE creative, following Vince McMahon’s departure.

Styles last wrestled on the August 1 edition of Raw, winning a threeway bout before losing a US Title #1 contenders contest to Ciampa.
