AJ Styles has said that he ‘tried’ to get a major WWE dream match with a Hall of Famer to happen in the company.
AJ finally made his WWE debut in the 2016 Royal Rumble match, where he would then go on to remain as part of the roster for the next decade.
However, AJ debuting in 2016 meant that he missed a lot of potential dream matches with older stars, most notably Shawn Michaels, who retired back at WrestleMania 26.
Speaking on Six Feet Under with the Undertaker, AJ noted that he ‘tried’ to get a match with Shawn, but it didn’t end up happening.
He said:
“I tried to make that happen, I did. That’s kind of what happened, because I was very jealous of some of the guys that were in WWE that had the opportunity to wrestle (Undertaker), and Shawn Michaels, and Triple H, and I was like jealous.
“I was like ‘can I wrestle Shawn’. They said ‘he’s not gonna wrestle’. I said ‘can I ask him? Did anyone ask him?’, I don’t know if they ever did but I assume the answer was no.”

AJ also noted that John Cena told him he ‘got in trouble’ for a moment on his WWE retirement tour.
