On Friday, WrestleTalk reported that former NXT Champion Aleister Black had suffered an unnamed injury at a live event in Las Vegas, Nevada, last Sunday. Now, thanks to Pro Wrestling Sheet, we can confirm that said injury was a groin tear.
The grievance, which occurred in the tag team main event which pitted Black and EC3 against Tomasso Ciampa and the Velveteen Dream, has been surgically repaired and the Dutch native is on the road to recovery. However, the typical recuperation time is three weeks minimum.
This could pose a problem as Aleister is scheduled to compete in a Triple Threat Match for the NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV on August 18. The close proximity of the event has put his appearance in jeopardy and there is now a huge chance that it will just be Tomasso Ciampa vs. Johnny Gargano for the strap in the next chapter of their rivalry.
Worse, NXT will tape the remainder of August’s television three days later, meaning Black may miss at least month of action. There’s a strong possibility we may not see him now until mid-September.
WrestleTalk will keep you updated on any news coming out of this story if and indeed when it becomes available.
WrestleTalk would like to hear your views on Aleister Black’s injury, whether you think it will keep him out of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV, and if you’d prefer to see just a singles outing between champion and his second challenger. You can contact us on Twitter and Discord today
