It’s hard to be disappointed by the prospect of another stellar encounter between Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa and that is exactly what we may get at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV, because Aleister Black has been withdrawn from the showstealer.
This has been confirmed by PWInsider and last night’s NXT edition where Black was found unconscous backstage. A ploy to give him a storyline reason to be absent.
Earlier this week, WrestleTalk reported that Aleister Black had suffered a groin tear during a tag team match in which he and EC3 took on Tommaso Ciampa and the Velveteen Dream. Although he successfully underwent surgery to repair the ailment, he was always in a race against time to recover.
The match will purportedly instead go ahead as a singles outing, though rumor of Matt Riddle beinf added last minute has been rife. Just a few minutes after PWInsider first broke the story, WrestleVotes appeared to confirm the worst on Twitter:
Being told by a source that Aleister Black is OUT of the TakeOver triple threat main event. Don’t know the plans as of now, but unless something drastically changes, he won’t be working Brooklyn, unfortunately.

And now it seems WWE have come to this realization, as they released the following video to YouTube after NXT went off the air last night:
This seems like a way to write Black off TV and out of TakeOver, all but confirming the severity of his injury.
WrestleTalk will keep you updated with further information as it becomes available.
