Alex Shelley Reveals Why He Stayed In TNA

Alex Shelley was one half of one of the most popular TNA Wrestling tag teams ever. He and Chris Sabin made up the Motor City Machine Guns and they had a fairly successful run together.

Now, Shelley has revealed why he stayed with the promotion for so long. Evidently it was one part financial, one part helping a friend.

“This is actually an awesome question. I stayed with TNA from 2010-2012 because I was in college and paying my way through. It was income and I never took a student loan out. Also, additionally, Okada was one of my best friends and I wanted to make sure he was safe and sane.”

Kazuchika Okada spent his excursion in TNA, an experience that soured New Japan Pro Wrestling on the promotion. Okada has talked about his time there and called it hell. He was promoted as a joke character named Okato, based on the character from the Green Hornet. It was very kind of Shelley to make sure Okada was taken care of during these difficult times.

Shelley and Sabin eventually made their way to Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling.
