There has been a new update regarding Alexa Bliss’ WWE status following reports that her return plans had been scrapped by the company.
On Wednesday (January 22) it was reported by PWInsider that Alexa Bliss’ much anticipated WWE return after two years away had been shelved, with the company originally planning to bring the five-time former Women’s Champion back on the January 13 episode of WWE Raw.
While a WWE source had claimed that a contractual issue could be the reason as to why, with a follow up report from Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio stating this was the case and that Bliss and WWE were “working on a deal”.
Now a follow up report from PWInsider Elite has revealed new details regarding the situation.
The report confirms that a contractual issue was the reason for WWE scrapping Bliss’ return, with the absent star seeking a new and improved contract upon her return, while WWE were instead wanting her to come back under the terms of her existing deal, which had been extended due to her absence from TV.
Bliss’ representatives reportedly contacted WWE regarding a new contract ahead of her planned return on the January 13 WWE Raw.
However, when WWE instead affirmed that they wanted Bliss to return under the terms of her exiting contract the two sides were left in a stalemate, with Bliss’ side digging in their heels and WWE playing “hard ball” back.
As a result WWE froze all plans for Bliss’ return, which would have seen her take part in an angle with The Wyatt Sicks and perform as a member of the Raw brand.
The Wyatt Sicks have now been moved to SmackDown as a result of this change of direction, with it being stated in PWInsider’s original report that the faction and Bliss’ plans would be separate from each other should she make her return to TV.
As of now the reality of a Bliss return remains unclear as the two sides have reportedly been “at odds” since the contract disagreement, with the 33 year old deleting all references to WWE from her social media bios on January 14 – the day after her return was scrapped.
Bliss last competed in WWE back at the 2023 Royal Rumble, where she lost to Bianca Belair in a WWE Raw Women’s Championship match.
Bliss would announce that she was pregnant later that year, with her and husband Ryan Cabrera celebrating the birth of their daughter in November 2023.
We will provide further updates on Bliss’ WWE status and potential return as more information becomes available.
