Ali has settled into life on Smackdown very quickly since his main roster debut at the end of 2018. The former 205 Live star even pinned the then WWE Champion, Daniel Bryan, in one of his first bouts on the blue brand.
Ali has faced difficulties in his wrestling career being a Muslim, he says he slowly built a character that fans could invest it. However, speaking to TV Insider, Ali says that initially, he felt as if WWE management didn’t understand his character and he had the seek the guidance of another fellow Smackdown star
“I was given a promo one day and didn’t agree with the verbiage or how to do it. I talked to the writer about it but was insisted to do a certain way. I went and vented to Xavier Woods about it. I told him, ‘It’s almost like they don’t know me.’ He said, ‘Because they don’t. It’s on you to present yourself how you want to be presented. It’s up to you to create this image that you want people to see. It’s on you. If they can’t see it, then you’re not doing a good job at it.”
One of the best parts of Ali’s work is his unique promos cut from his phone’s camera, Ali had the following to say regarding this style of promo delivery:
“They are my brainchild. Nobody really does them except for me. There is a reason I stuck out on 205 Live. There is a reason I was moved to SmackDown and stick out on SmackDown. That’s one of my strong suits, so thanks, Woods.”
