‘Almost Pure Disaster’ AEW Dynamite Moment Revealed

‘Almost Pure Disaster’ AEW Dynamite Moment Revealed AEW

Chris Jericho has recalled an AEW Dynamite moment involving MJF which was ‘almost pure disaster’ due to changes ahead of the episode airing.

On the October 21, 2020 edition of Dynamite, Jericho and MJF had a dinner segment which ended with them singing ‘ Me and My Shadow.

On Talk Is Jericho, Chris Jericho revealed that he and MJF considered several songs for the segment, including some Elton John numbers.

Noting that the segment almost got pulled, but was cleared fifteen minutes before it aired, Jericho said:

“(MJF) had the initial idea to do something like a fantasy sequence, like you saw in ‘Rocketman,’ the Elton John biopic. He wanted to do ‘Tiny Dancer.’

“I was like ‘It doesn’t really fit our vibe. We should do something that’s more of a partner song.’

“About thirty minutes later, we get this call. ‘You guys can’t use that version of the song, or the publisher will sue us.’

“‘Why?’ They had some kind of beef with the guy that played trumpet on that version of the song, and they forbade us to … ‘You can use the song, you just can’t use that version.’

Confirming that AEW music producer Mikey Rukus recorded a new version of the song for AEW production, Jericho said:

“This thing was cleared and ready to go literally fifteen minutes before it aired. And Tony at one point went ‘You guys are going to have to do it live.’

“I’m like ‘We can’t do it live! There’s cheerleaders and dancers!’ So that was the nick of time, right to the wire, like a MacGuyver. What a moment of almost pure disaster.”

MJF is currently the AEW World Champion, most recently defending his gold against Bryan Danielson in an iron-man match at AEW Revolution.

Chris Jericho is set for a match against Keith Lee on next week’s Dynamite.
