Angelo Mosca Passes Away Aged 84

We are saddened to learn that former WWE (WWF) and Canadian Football League star Angelo Mosca Sr has passed away aged 84.

Angelo’s wife, Helen, announced his passing on November 6 with a statement on her Facebook page, following Mosca’s lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s:

“It is with great sadness that the family of Angelo Mosca announce his passing on November 6, 2021, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Angelo was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather as well as friend to so many. Angelo was 84 years old. We ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this time.”

Mosca was a football player before pursuing professional wrestling. Drafted to the Philadelphia Eagles in 1959, Mosca instead chose the join the CFL, playing for the Hamilton Tiger Cats, and later the Ottawa Rough Riders. In 1987, he was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.

Mosca began wrestling during the off-season, becoming a full-time grappler after retiring from football. From 1981, Mosca wrestled as a heel in WWF, becoming a top challenger to Bob Backlund’s WWF Championship. He also notably feuded with Pat Patterson during his tenure with the company.

Mosca both commentated and wrestled for the WWF TV tapings in Ontario between 1984-1985, before promoting NWA in Ontario in 1985-1987. He retired from in-ring competition in 1986.

From everyone here at WrestleTalk, we extend our deepest condolences to the friends, family, and fans of Angelo Mosca.
