Following Wednesday’s news that The Elite (Kenny Omega, ‘Hangman’ Adam Page and Matt & Nick Jackson) had all re-signed with AEW, anonymous members of the group have now commented on the decision.
In new information published in the Dave Meltzer’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, quotes were shared from two members of The Elite, specifically regarding their decision to stay in AEW rather than move to WWE.
It had been noted by Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio on August 3 that the group had decided they would stick together either way, but were going “back and forth” between AEW and WWE.
This reportedly led to them making their decision based on a majority rule vote which clearly tipped in AEW’s favour in the end.
However, Meltzer wrote of the decision being far from straight forward according to the group, however, the AEW schedule and the “strong offer” on the table from Tony Khan proved pivotal.
Meltzer writes:
“You’d probably be surprised who voted where,” noted one of the four.
Votes changed at times during the discussions based on the emotions of the time, but ultimately all agreed the key, with the strong AEW offer, was to accept the offer made at this point with the other key factor being the AEW schedule.
Another said, “There were a lot of things to consider this time around, but we’re all happy with how it ended up.”
It was also revealed by Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio that although WWE were interested in all four men, they carried particular interest in Kenny Omega.
Plenty of other details have emerged from Omega, Page and The Bucks’ massive decision, with more details sure to come – to catch up on all the news on The Elite follow this link here.
