In addition to the WWE Championship changing hands in the main event, the Hell in a Cell pay per view also saw the SmackDown Women’s Championship change hands.
After many years, Bayley and Sasha Banks finally had their big main roster match. It lived up to the hype with Sasha Banks eventually winning the SmackDown Women’s Championship. This was the second Hell in a Cell match of the show.
This is the first time Banks has been the Women’s Champion since 2017. Historically, Banks never won her titles on pay per view and she always lost them in her first title defense. While she has yet to defend the title, she successfully captured the title in a big pay per view match.
This is also the first time Banks has captured the SmackDown Women’s Championship specifically. This means she is now the latest star to capture all of WWE’s women’s titles. She had previously won the Raw Women’s Title, NXT Women’s Title, and WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles.
This brought the historic reign of Bayley to an end. She had been SmackDown Women’s Champion for 380 days, a record-breaking reign for the relatively young title.
