A scrapped AEW concept has been revealed as the idea behind a recent trademarked term has reportedly been put on hold.
There have been reports aplenty about a proposed AEW ‘brand split’, which it looks like is an idea that isn’t being followed through with other than certain exceptions (like keeping CM Punk and The Elite apart).
However, one additional concept that appeared to be related to the brand split was the term Transfer Portal, which AEW filed to trademark on May 17, the same day the company filed to trademark the logo for AEW Collision.
It wasn’t confirmed, but it sure seemed like the term Transfer Portal would have been AEW’s name for a draft or a trade or something like that with someone going from one brand to the other.
Well, in addition to the report as to why AEW ultimately didn’t go with a full-on brand split, Fightful Select has shed some light.
According to Fightful, the Transfer Portal was indeed something planned to be in relation to the brand split, but the idea as been “tabled” for now.
Fightful also reported that CM Punk is expected to be at this week’s AEW Dynamite in Chicago, and because The Elite and Punk can’t mingle, The Elite won’t be there and will likely only appear via a pre-tape.
