An Antonio Inoki film has been announced at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17.
On October 1, 2022, Antonio Inoki passed away from systematic transthyretin amyloidosis at the age of 79.
During NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17’s pre show, the company announced that an Antonio Inoki film is currently under development. No further details were offered outside of that.
Inoki is the founder of New Japan Pro Wrestling and considered a pioneer of Japanese wrestling. Along with many matches against legendary wrestlers, Inoki famously wrestled boxer Muhammad Ali in 1976.
NJPW paid tribute to their founder at Wrestle Kingdom 17 with a special six-man memorial bout with Satoshi Kojima, Yuji Nagata and Togi Makabe defeating Tiger Mask, Minoru Suzuki and Tatsumi Fujinami.
Kazuchika Okada also paid tribute to Inoki during his post match celebration and promo following his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship win over Jay White in the main event of the show.
As previously mentioned, a top AEW star won a championship title at today’s NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 event.
