Apollo Crews looked like he might be in for a bit of a push when he qualified for Money in the Bank. Unfortunately, it was not to be.
Crews was injured in storyline during his match with Andrade on Raw, pulling him from the match. Now, it has been revealed that this was not a change of plans, and Crews was never going to be in the match. Dave Meltzer reported the following in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter:
“The Money in the Bank match was actually taped the week of 4/13. Apollo Crews’ storyline was always planned for him to qualify but not compete in the match and with Styles returning.”
For all the times WWE has changed their plans, it looks like they were sticking to their guns. After Crews was removed from the match, AJ Styles returned to Raw to take his place. Styles won the gauntlet match on Raw, propelling him to be the odds on favourite to win the Money in the Bank match.
Money in the Bank will air on May 10, with the ladder matches having taken place at WWE headquarters.
