Appearance Of WWE Star Designed To Annoy Fans

A popular WWE Superstar has revealed that his current look was designed to anger fans.

The current Sami Zayn looks a lot different to the happy-go-lucky babyface that debuted on the main roster. At one point maintaining short hair and a clean beard, Zayn now is characterised by his unkempt appearance.

While Zayn has drawn many comparisons to Fidel Castro, he has recently revealed that this wasn’t the intent. Recently speaking to Ryan Satin of WWE on Fox, Zayn noted that the original inspiration for his look was Bill Murray’s character from the film Kingpin.

Also citing Bret Hart as an inspiration for his hair, Zayn revealed that he’s purposely not changing his appearance anytime soon. Wanting to become as unlikable as possible, Zayn is maintaining his aesthetic to annoy all the people who don’t like his scruffy look.

Here are the full quotes:

“It’s funny that you say it’s getting under people’s skin. I actually get that comment a lot. “Cut your hair. Shave your beard.” What’s your problem? What do you care? It’s the strangest thing. It offends people to be this unkempt. It offends people.”

“I had an inspiration early on from, I don’t know if you’ve ever seen the movie, Kingpin. Bill Murray’s character in Kingpin and the big game when his hair starts going little by little. That was a bit of an inspiration for me. I wanted to have that look.”

“Or Bret Hart from a more practical point of view, where he’d come out looking one way, but then as the match progressed he looked a different way and it kind of gave off the effect that this person’s going through hell and they’re in a war.”

“It’s really strange. Like, it’s something you would have heard in the 70s. “Cut your hair, hippy.” But, it’s 2021. How can this bother you? Anyways, whatever. I digress. If it helps get under people’s skin in any way or helps me be any more unlikable, then I like it. And I do think especially now, because of the conspiracy theorist sort of skew on the character, it kinda goes hand in hand with that. It looks like someone who’s been holed up in his basement a little while, going down a YouTube rabbit hole and now he’s paranoid. Too much coffee. God knows what. That’s kind of the aesthetic I’m going for a little bit.”

Zayn understands his character well, if one thing’s for certain, his unkempt aesthetic certainly makes him seem more unhinged.

Recently, Zayn has been making a conspiracy documentary to show people how he’s being cheated by WWE, so it’s interesting to hear how he was inspired by people going down the “YouTube rabbit hole”.

Zayn enters the Smackdown Elimination Chamber match this Sunday. The winner of the match challenges Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship on the same night.
