With Triple H taking over WWE creative, many top NXT stars of the past and present were brought back to the WWE main roster as he continues to reshape the roster in his image.
The first returns of the Triple H era took place at SummerSlam, when Bayley, Dakota Kai and IYO SKY (Io Shirai) all made their returns to the company, confronting Bianca Belair and Becky Lynch.
With IYO SKY on the main roster, a new host of dream matches for her became possible, with the name at or near the top of most people’s lists being Asuka.
The two had never wrestled each other during their time in Japan, and with both now involved in the same feud on Raw, it seemed inevitable that the match between the two was on the horizon.
While the two were both a part of a tag team match on this week’s Raw, the first official singles match between the two took place at WWE’s live event in Springfield last night.
SKY picked up the victory with a roll up with her feet on the ropes.
