Atsushi Onita is a deathmatch legend and he believes the Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch at AEW Revolution was fantastic.
The match has been remembered for the lackluster final explosion, overshadowing the match itself. Speaking with Inside The Ropes, Onita discussed the match, giving it his seal of approval:
“I think both Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega had a nice match. That match was fantastic. I felt that the lack of explosion power was a shame because they had a really great fight. AEW’s explosion was disproportionate to the goodness of the match.”
Onita also theorized why the final explosion may have gone wrong.
“First, the difference in the fire laws. Then there are technical issues. It seems that the fire law differs each state in the United States, and it seems that the handling of gunpowder indoors is generally stricter than in Japan.”
Atsushi Onita was also shown by AEW in the buildup to AEW Revolution. Since then, Jon Moxley has started entering to “Wild Thing” the song Onita famously used as his own ring music.
