Current Backstage Roles Of AEW EVPs Revealed

A recent report has provided an update on the backstage roles of the AEW Executive Vice Presidents (EVPs).

Cody Rhodes, AEW World Champion Kenny Omega and AEW Tag Team Champions Matt and Nick Jackson act as Executive Vice Presidents for AEW.

As per Cassidy Haynes of Bodyslam.net, the roles of the EVPs have drastically changed since AEW’s inception, with sources telling Bodyslam:

“Basically they are EVPs in name only in 2021. They no longer have final say in creative or talent hiring. Any of them. TK pulled back on the reigns and took that power away from all.”

“Cody doesn’t really have much of a relationship with any of the EVPs, anymore. The others are still great friends, but Cody is very much on the outside looking in.”

The report noted that the EVPs’ creative power has been reduced significantly, with almost all ideas going through Tony Khan. While “creative is absolutely Tony Khan’s prerogative now”, AEW talents are still allowed and encouraged to pitch ideas.

Cody Rhodes was reportedly the only EVP to regularly attend “office” meetings at one point, but his input with creative has gotten smaller. Matt Jackson role mostly requires him to assist his wife with merchandise, while Nick Jackson is focused on BTE, as per the report.

Omega is reportedly very involved with his role of helping to produce women’s matches, as well as “the gaming side of things.”

In a recent interview, Brian Cage detailed the AEW creative process, noting that he believes AEW would benefit from the EVPs having more creative control.
