The 2020 Royal Rumble was maybe the best one the women of WWE have had to date. It built well and did a good job protecting Bianca Belair and Shayna Baszler even in defeat.
One part of the match that stands out is around the halfway mark. Just before the 17th entrant, Belair and Alexa Bliss battled on the apron with Belair ultimately eliminating Bliss. They were the first two entrants in the match and this left Belair as the only active participant when Charlotte Flair entered at number 17.
Now, we know why the Royal Rumble was put together this way. Fightful Select (subscription required) are reporting that WWE broke down the rehearsal for the match into two sections in the days prior. This was to help streamline the rehearsals but it resulted in the match having two distinct halves.
The report also states that the rehearsals last year had issues getting started due to tardiness. This has reportedly been amended this year with a larger period of time being set aside for rehearsals.
The 2021 Royal Rumble event will take place on January 31, 2021.
