Backstage Reaction & More Details On AEW Talent Meeting & Morale AEW

As previously reported, AEW held a mandatory talent meeting ahead of last night’s (August 24) episode of AEW Dynamite, and it appears to have gone down quite well with most people.

Speaking during the most recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer had a conversation about how the meeting was received, and also why the meeting was necessary in the first place.

There has definitely been a level of unrest backstage in AEW, but it seems it may not have been as serious some have suggested.

Below is the conversation between Alvarez and Meltzer on WOR.

Alvarez: “I was basically told that at the end of the meeting, most people came out of it feeling a lot better about things…and some people maybe did not. But the vast majority apparently came out of it feeling better about things.”

Meltzer: “There is turmoil. There is this stuff. It’s a lot of stuff going on in a short period of time, but in a lot of ways, it’s not as much turmoil as people think – but there is turmoil.

“That said, I did say that one of the things they needed to address, which they did not, is the CM Punk situation. A lot of what’s happened stems from that, and I didn’t think they would bring it up because that would be a very difficult subject in a lot of ways, but there are people who believe that Punk is the reason that Cabana is not in the Dark Order and not in AEW, although he is signed to Ring of Honor I believe for the same money he was making in AEW. But I know also that Punk has told people that that’s not the case.

“So they need… believe me, that’s not the only problem, but it is a problem that started a lot of things. It certainly started the situation with Adam Page and Punk, and if you watch the show (last night), there was no Adam Page, there was no answering it (Punk’s callout last week), there was no mention of him in the Punk/Moxley match, anything that would turn this into an angle. Not saying that they won’t later, but that, whatever it is, I don’t know what the truth is, I’ll just say that, to clear the air, they needed to tell whatever the story is (in the meeting), and did not.

“So in that situation, you still have the same situation, so that was not addressed. They definitely have to get certain things under control there, because a lot’s happened in a short period of time.”
