Backstage Details On Mark Henry Signing With AEW

Following Mark Henry appearing at Double or Nothing, AEW President Tony Khan discussed his relationship with the World’s Strongest Man.

On last night’s show, it was revealed that Henry had signed with AEW. The WWE Hall of Famer will be an analyst for AEW Rampage when the brand launches.

According to Tony Khan, Henry is a good friend of his. The AEW president noted that Henry had recently informed him that he was available, and interested in working with the promotion.

Discussing Henry’s experience, Khan said:

“Mark Henry and I are friends. Mark told me he was available and to do things that I would be really interested in doing. I thought that would be really interesting because he’s not only a good friend but a really respected person in the wrestling business. A great wrestler, a great mind, a great scout, and a great analyst in wrestling.

“He gives his opinions on the radio, but he provides great scouting reports and he really has helped mentor a lot of wrestlers in addition to being a great wrestling mind. I think he could be not only a great on-air personality but a great backstage influence. He’s a great friend and person, so it’s just great to have Mark in the AEW family, and it was great to announce it on such a special show.”

Henry made his first appearance for WWE in March 1996. He last competed for the company in 2018, as an entrant in the Greatest Royal Rumble match.

One of his biggest rivals in WWE was current AEW announcer Paul Wight (Big Show). Wight has recently revealed that he wants to wrestle for AEW in the future.
