Vince McMahon wrestled a match at the age of 76 on last Sunday’s WrestleMania 38 show, when he scored a victory over Pat McAfee, before Steve Austin came out and stunned both McMahon and Austin Theory.
Fightful Select (subscription required) has provided more information on McMahon wrestling on the show. The report notes that McMahon was said to have made the decision to wrestle at Mania ‘months ago’. Numerous people close to him and on the creative team reportedly vocally expressed that they thought it was a terrible idea.
Those that Fightful spoke to said that there were plenty of laughs had by the team and Vince himself in the days since the event. Fightful notes that McMahon recognized it was a terrible performance and sell of the Stunner, but chalked it up to “as long as people were laughing and entertained, it’s okay.”
In another humorous thing in retrospect is that Fightful notes that Vince McMahon laid out the entire post match for the show, including Austin Theory’s music hitting after the match. McMahon reacted to Theory’s music as if it was Stone Cold’s which led to many laughs backstage.
