Velveteen Dream returned to NXT last night after missing months following allegations amidst the Speaking Out movement. Fans appeared to be split in their reactions to the return. Now, there are reports that there is significant backstage heat following his return.
Fightful Select (subscription required) is reporting that the return of Velveteen Dream was kept very private. Many backstage at NXT did not know he would be returning until just before the show began. The heat itself did not start or end with his return, however. The report states there has been heat for a long time as a result of behavioral problems and what some consider preferential treatment.
It also states the belief is anyone else would have been fired if they were in his position.
WWE has yet to provide any update to the allegations towards Velveteen Dream. This is in stark contrast to the swift action they took with the likes of Matt Riddle, and the NXT UK roster.
Velveteen Dream’s return saw him compete against KUSHIDA and Cameron Grimes. He was unsuccessful as Grimes won the match, qualifying for the North American Championship ladder match at Takeover: XXX.
