Backstage News On Recent WWE Releases

April 15 has become release day for WWE in back-to-back years. While this year’s list was a bit smaller, it did have some mind-boggling names on it.

Two of the names who had been seen off and on on SmackDown prior to their releases were Wesley Blake and Kalisto.

Wesley Blake was teamed with Steve Cutler and the duo was set to be back-ups to King Corbin. Cutler was let go and WWE had nothing for Blake.

Now, Fightful Select is reporting WWE had considered putting Blake back with Buddy Murphy. The duo were NXT tag team champions together. Obviously, that didn’t happen.

While some were pushing for this to happen, it may have seemed to those in control in WWE that Kalisto was pushing towards free agency.

Fightful is also reporting Kalisto had openly been talking backstage about becoming a free agent prior to his contract being renewed in the summer of 2020. Apparently, Kalisto was desiring to be a singles star and was hoping to part ways with Lucha House Party.

Kalisto spent a large portion of this time injured. However, he returned in incredible shape and gained praise for his work on his physique.

While WWE split up the group, Kalisto did almost nothing on SmackDown after the split. Both Kalisto and Blake have 90-day clauses and could be available fairly soon. Where will they wind up?
