A new report has revealed the backstage reaction to AEW house shows.
As previously reported, All Elite Wrestling announced that the company would be running house shows on select weekends with a series entitled “AEW House Rules”. The series kicks off on March 18 in Troy, Ohio.
Fightful Select (subscription required) has provided an update on the backstage reaction to the news, noting that several talent said that they knew something like this had been coming for a while.
One source indicated that multiple wrestlers have pushed for house shows for multiple reasons. One talent told Fightful that they would rather get their in-ring reps in under the AEW banner than working outside the promotion for various reasons.
Another talent spoke of how this will benefit younger or more inexperienced talent, and expect to see some creative matchups that will help them along in their growth process. That same talent went on to speak highly of the reps those talents get on AEW Dark.
However, that talent said being able to work longer matches on the road against more experienced talent will be invaluable. It was also noted that most, if not all, of the AEW talent do have a set number of maximum dates in their contracts that the company rarely even comes close to approaching on a yearly basis.
The talent that Fightful spoke to expect the shows to be filmed, which is customary for all major companies, but there is currently no word to distribute them.
We will have further updates in regards to AEW house show schedule when they become available.
