The backstage reaction to Bray Wyatt’s WWE return at Extreme Rules has been revealed.
Following weeks of ‘White Rabbit’ teases, Wyatt made his return appearance for WWE in the closing moments of the October 8 premium live event.
After the lights went out and various Firefly Fun House characters were shown in the crowd, Wyatt appeared in a doorway on the stage, before removing his mask for a monster pop.
Per Fightful Select (subscription required), WWE sources have indicated that Wyatt’s appearance was very well received. WWE was reportedly happy with the buzz surrounding the White Rabbit teases which had been appearing on WWE programming ahead of Extreme Rules.
A lot has changed since Wyatt last appeared for WWE in 2021. In July 2022, Vince McMahon announced his retirement, and Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan took over as co-CEOs. Triple H currently oversees creative as the company’s Chief Content Officer.
Fightful reports that members of the new WWE regime told them they were ‘optimistic’ about the possibility of Wyatt returning to the company just a week after Vince McMahon’s departure.
It was also noted that some individuals who are usually ‘in the know’ weren’t given the full context of the White Rabbit teases until the week of Extreme Rules, with WWE creative largely uninvolved, with the exception of some references that had to be approved.
Wyatt notably gets on with new Director of Long-term Creative Rob Fee. Per Fightful, Fee pitched a Fiend movie to Nick Khan in 2021, before Wyatt’s release.
