Backstage Reaction To CM Punk’s Off-Script Jab At Hangman Page

Backstage Reaction To CM Punk’s Off-Script Jab At Hangman Page AEW

The backstage reaction to CM Punk’s off-script jab at Hangman Page has been revealed.

On the August 17 edition of AEW Dynamite, CM Punk took a jab at Hangman Page where he called him out and called him a coward for not answering.

It was later revealed that the jab was off-script and nobody backstage knew Punk would say this beforehand.

Per Fightful Select (subscription required), several within AEW felt the situation that unfolded on Dynamite was “unfair” to Hangman Page if he wasn’t aware of it.

One person said “even if he was aware of it, what would he have done? Charged to the ring past Tony (Khan)? Interrupted a promo he knew he wasn’t supposed to be part of? There was no way Hangman could have ‘won’ in that situation.”

The report notes that Hangman Page was in the building, but haven’t heard that he responded in any particular way. Hangman isn’t a confrontational person and is generally well-liked among the roster.

The belief among several on the roster was that CM Punk believed Hangman Page went into business for himself leading into their Double Or Nothing match with his promos and that Punk may have seen the August 17 promo as a “receipt.”

It was also noted that this was locker room speculation as opposed to Punk telling anyone that directly.

As previously noted, AEW feared that CM Punk may have quit the company due to his recent frustrations.

We will have further updates on Punk and Hangman Page when they become available.
