Current Backstage Status Of Cody Rhodes Planned WrestleMania 38 Match AEW

Tomorrow marks one month since we found out Cody Rhodes and Brandi Rhodes had both left AEW, and it’s been quite a month.

First, we were all very shocked at the news, and then even more shocked to hear Cody’s team had been in contact with WWE over a possible return.

We were all convinced Cody would be returning to WWE, but then talks reportedly hit a few snags, and suddenly we weren’t so sure after all.

Right now, it appears Cody has a number of offers on the table, and it’s just a case of him deciding which one to take, but WWE still very much has a plan in place should Rhodes return ahead of WrestleMania 38.

According to Dave Meltzer on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, the plan is still for Rhodes to face Seth Rollins at WrestleMania, with many hoping he will return as soon as tonight on Raw, which is being taped in AEW’s spiritual home of Jacksonville Florida.

Meltzer said:

“On Friday, Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins was still listed as a match for WrestleMania. But, nobody knew – I’m sure some people know – but nobody knew if he was gonna be there (tonight) or not. Cody may know, Vince may know, but it’s not like they were advertising it backstage or telling people, or even creative, that Cody’s on the show on Monday. He may be there, he may not, but the fact the match is still listed tells me that they (WWE) believe he’s in. Whether he’s signed or not I cannot say, but obviously they believe he’s in, they believe the match is still on.”

Make of that what you will, but it seems plenty of people within WWE are still convinced Cody will be making his return, they just don’t actually known when it’s going to happen.

In terms of probability, if it is going to happen, and you want to watch it live, it might be a good idea to watch tonight’s episode of Raw.

Cody Rhodes left WWE without a 5 Star match, and may be returning with one. Check out all of Dave Meltzer’s star ratings for 2022 right here.
