A backstage update has been provided on the botched spot from WWE Raw.
On the December 5 edition of Raw, United States Champion Austin Theory defended his title against Mustafa Ali.
During their bout, there was a botched spot on a top rope frankensteiner by Ali on Theory.
Fightful Select (subscription required) provided an update on the aftermath, noting that the botch occurred because Austin Theory didn’t hold on to Mustafa Ali.
The idea for the move was for Theory to block the move and lift Ali up for a powerbomb. From there, Ali was supposed to reverse that move back into a rana.
Mustafa called for the referee to check on Theory and Ali called the audible for the satellite DDT. The U.S. Champion was very apologetic backstage for the slip up between the two men, but there was no heat between them.
Ali pulled out the victory by disqualification after outside interference from the returning Dolph Ziggler who hit Theory with a superkick.
