In a new update, an interesting detail has been revealed about the goings on backstage at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2023, specifically concerning CM Punk and The Elite.
With fans wondering how, or even if, CM Punk and The Elite (the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega) would be co-existing backstage at tonight’s pay-per-view, some intriguing details have now come to light.
Tonight is the first time the parties have been at the same show since last year’s infamous situation at All Out.
According to Fightful Select, sources shared that The Elite and Punk were “put on completely different sides of the building”.
Punk went on record in last week’s interview with ESPN saying that he had attempted to contact members of The Elite after All Out, but the response was letters from attorneys telling him not to.
Since then, the two sides haven’t had any kind of interaction with each other.
While some AEW names seem to have leaked that there have supposedly been more issues in the locker room since Punk’s return, others, including Eddie Kingston, have publicly said any such issues have been blown out of proportion.
For his part, CM Punk’s work for the night is seemingly complete as he has already faced off against Satoshi Kojima. To find out what happened during that match, you can click this link.
The Elite still have their matches to come though, as the Young Bucks (and Hangman Page who is on that side of the Punk situation, just with less legal implications) are involved in an 10-man tag match, and Kenny Omega defends the IWGP US Heavyweight Championship against Will Ospreay.
In the night’s opening bout, MJF retained the AEW World Championship after sending out a hilarious scheduled tweet mid-match.
