Recently departing WWE star Baron Corbin has stated that he wanted to win a world championship in the company as a way to “honor” a Hall of Famer.
On November 1 it was reported that the former United States Champion would be departing the company at the end of his contract, with Corbin himself confirming the news via social media.
One of the notable names to comment on Corbin’s WWE exit was Hall of Famer Kurt Angle, who famously wrestled Corbin in what was the Olympic gold medalist’s retirement match at WrestleMania 35 in 2019.
Speaking in a recent interview, Angle expressed his disappointment at WWE not using his retirement as a means to elevate Corbin to higher level in the company, with Angle believing that he lost the match for “nothing” and that his former foe was “underrated” throughout his tenure.
This would catch the attention of Corbin himself, who took to Twitter to pay respect to Angle and express his own frustration that he wasn’t able to reach main event status in the company after retiring the former five-time WWE World Champion.
Corbin wrote:
To be fair, that’s one of the reasons I wish I had become world champ! It would paid honor to what Kurt did for me.
I will forever appreciate it and wish I could have done more to make it worth it for him.
Corbin’s only WWE accolades after retiring Angle would be a King of the Ring victory later in 2019, and then finally a 56 day NXT Tag Team Championship reign with Bron Breakker earlier this year.
We will make sure to post updates on Corbin’s future post-WWE as/when they become available.
