Dave Bautista (Batista) has bid farewell to his iconic ‘Drax The Destroyer’ character, following Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 wrapping production.
On Saturday (May 7), director James Gunn shared a wrap photo with stars Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Pom Klementieff and Bautista.
The former WWE Champion has since shared this photo to Instagram, taking a moment to say goodbye to the role of a lifetime.
Bautista captioned the photo:
Haven’t found the words yet. It ended so suddenly and I was on to my next film before I could process it all. End of a journey that changed my life. #guardiansofthegalaxy #vol3 #GoodbyeDrax #DreamChaser #DreamMachine
Bautista made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Drax in the 2014 Guardians of the Galaxy film. He returned as the character for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 2017, Avengers: Infinity War in 2018, and Avengers: Endgame in 2019, with the latter at one point recognised as the highest grossing film of all time.
Drax’s next appearance will be in this Summer’s Thor Love & Thunder, which releases in July.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently slated for a May 5, 2023 release. The flick appears to be providing fans with a conclusion to the ensemble’s story, with Karen Gillan also recently noting that she doesn’t know whether or not this movie will be ‘Nebula’s final chapter in the MCU.
Bautista retired from wrestling following his bout with Triple H at WrestleMania 35 in 2019.
