Big Boom AJ of the Costco Guys has explained why he left professional wrestling prior to his in-ring return at AEW Full Gear.
At AEW Full Gear Zero Hour, AJ of the Costco Guys, accompanied by Big Justice and the Rizzler, faced off against QT Marshall in a match that had been building on social media.
While AJ’s appearance got a lot of buzz due to his popularity on Tik Tok now, back in the day, AJ himself was a professional wrestler on the independent scene.
Speaking on Hey! EW, Big Boom AJ explained why he left pro wrestling years ago, noting that he probably wouldn’t have left wrestling if the Internet was as big then as it is now.
He said:
“Well, because if we had all we had right now, the Internet, where you could really reach everyone, I would have stayed in wrestling.
“At the time, I went as far as wrestling as I really wanted to go, because without being on the road so many days a year… I have so much respect for professional wrestlers. Being on the road over 200 days a year, at the time, television was really only the opportunity. But now that we have all this, we’re able to bring the boom!”
Big Boom AJ suffered a broken foot prior to his match with QT at Full Gear, working the match with the injury.
Following the show, AJ has said that he plans to make more appearances in AEW in the future.
